Newsmax | Dobson Attacks Kasich for ‘Shameful’ Veto of Abortion Bill

Radio host Dr. James Dobson, called Ohio Gov. John Kasich’s veto of the “Heartbeat Bill” a “shameful action,” on Wednesday.

“I join with millions of evangelicals and Catholics in condemning Gov. John Kasich’s veto of the bill. This was a cowardice and shameful action,” Dobson wrote on his website.
The “Heartbeat Bill,” named for a measure that would ban abortions if a fetal heartbeat is detected, would have also banned abortions performed after six weeks. Kasich did accept a new regulation that would make abortions performed after 20 weeks a fourth-degree felony for the doctor. Kasich defended his decision by citing the current ruling of the Supreme Court on abortion.

“Such a defeat invites additional challenges to Ohio’s strong legal protections for unborn life,” he wrote in his veto message, according to CNN.”Therefore, this veto is in the public interest.”

Dobson disagreed with Kasich’s defense, arguing that “signing the bill would have been the constitutionally correct thing to do; it would have also been morally correct to do. Governor Kasich has sent a message to voters in Ohio — and across the nation — that the Governor isn’t as committed to life as he professes to be.

“For decades, we have fought for the rights of the unborn,” Dobson continued. “We have not grown weary, we have never lost faith, and now we face a growing movement to finally reject the barbarism of abortion and to fully protect the rights of the unborn.

“This bill was an important step in that direction, and we mustn’t be silent in response to the Governor’s action. This is the time to redouble all of our efforts nationwide until we will finally, fully win our fight for the rights of our nation’s unborn children.”

Dobson concludes his statement with a plea for his audience to phone, email, or make a personal visit to Kasich’s office to “express their outrage over his veto.”
